Mayers Bridal and Fabric Shop was founded in 1939 in Cape Town's historic District 6 by the late Albert and Leni Mayer as a specialty business focused on quality fabrics and accessories for the bride, her party and all special occasion wear. The business was run by the second generation of the family, Ralph and Lucille Mayer when it expanded to one of South Africa's leading companies in the range of goods and services which it offers.

The keys to the Mayers establishment were handed to the Collier family as the premises were moved from Strand to Darling street in Cape Town and a new exclusive fabric and bridal showroom was presented to the public towards the end of December 2009. The Colliers possess decades of experience in the fabric, haberdashery and fashion trade and are also second-generation retailers in this field.
